“Children need books that are
Mirrors that allow them to see themselves and their own experiences, Windows that they can look through to see other worlds they can then compare to their own, and
Sliding glass doors that allow them to enter other worlds.”
-Rudine Sims Bishop
Indivisible Nob Hill is spearheading a fundraising drive to provide every child in one Title 1 elementary school with three culturally and linguistically responsive books about children of color at a true book fair. Recognizing that children of color are grossly underrepresented in children’s literature, the goal is to provide the children at the selected school with their very own books that allow them to see themselves in the mirror of literature, seeing a reflection of their own lives and experiences.
